THAILAND - Ayuthaya Ayuthaya, the old historical capital of Siam (the Thai Kingdom). The city flourished for many centuries until it ws conquered by the Burmese in 1767. We hired bikes to explore the beautiful temples that managed to survive the attack which brought a kingdom down.

The ancient head of a statue consumed by a tree root.
Steve took a corner took quickly and like the old Kingdom went up in flames!

THAILAND - Bangkok
Shopping, shopping and some more shopping. We spent two full days at Chatuchak Market, the biggest of its kind in the world and home to over a whopping 15,000 stalls! It nearly killed James who needed an IV drip of beer to keep him conscious. To be honest, I don't want to see another market, souvenir, fake watch, shoes, plastic bag etc etc for a long time. Or at leat until we get to China!

Sightseeing in Bangkok is a golden temple, buddah staute overdose experience. All very beautiful but you can quickly reach saturation point - perhaps the hangover from NYE celebrations didn't help. Speaking of which, the celebrations were suprisingly cut short as revellers were sent home early after several bomb blasts in the city centre.

They really love their King here. His picture is posted everywhere and much of the populace wear bright yellow t-shirts demonstrating their loyalty.
